To me it was always important to care about environment. Sometimes maybe more than others. There are people who think I´m eccentric but I don´t see me that way.
Activities I do, to live and be more sustainable:
- I have my own collection of reusable bags
I often get them as presents from companies or friends, who know I´m not using plastic bags. I always have them in my handbag.
- I use washable handkerchiefs
Grandma style, and I´m not kidding, they are from my grandma and I love them, it´s like keeping up a legacy.
- I grow my own food
Please be escorted to my garden section =).
- Glass and paper package
The stuff I buy in grocery stores I always look for juice in glass bottles, vegetables without package, flower, rice and noodles in paper package. In the beginning I thought, “woohhh, I´m not finding anything without package and all that stuff you can buy, wtf!” Now I have my brands and know where to go.
Saving energy is easier than you thing and using the refund of your yearly bill to treat yourself is just awesome.
- Unplug from plug socket
A lot of machines or stuff you don´t need all day long like your coffee machine, washing machine, dryer, micro wave, sound system, computer, etc. are on standby or still plugged in. After using it totally unplug it from the network. If you let the plug in the plug socket it still will consume electricity. Don´t ask my way, but it does. I got to know it, as an electrician checked my plug sockets and ask me what is connected in one room, I forgot to unplug the dryer and he told my, he can see it by the energy that is flowing through the network.
That is something typical German, we call it “Mett” or “Gehacktes”. As I went abroad and people saw me eating “raw smashed” meat they just said I´m gross.
That was the first time, that I realized “Maybe it isn´t normal to do that, even if it is in eastern Germany”. Here is the meat free version for all my friends abroad, to know how it taste like, but still don´t need to eat raw meat =).
What you need: (4 portions)
50 g rice cake (or 6 slices)
1 big onion
60 g tomato paste
What you need:
300 g flour
3 tablespoons baking soda
150 g dark chocolate flakes
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
300 ml soya milk
100 ml oil (sun flower)
How you do it:
Smash the bananas and then blend everything under. Fill it in a form and put it in the oven for 20 min and bake it at 175°C. Enjoy.
Who doesn´t want to hang around, relax and just don´t do anything sometimes? I prefer to do that on my balcony. It´s awesome as I can spend time outside and kind of in nature because I live next to a forest. In addition I don´t need to get dressed, get out and always think I forgot something.
I had common balcony furniture but I really wanted to lay down sometimes. So I decided to build a lounge out of pallet. You can find a lot of manuals online but I have to admit I´m lazy, so I´m going for an easy version.
Maybe you never did that before, but don´t worry it´s very easy. Canning is going to be very important to you, as you won´t be able to eat all the fruits on time. If your plants are well they will overwhelm you with food =). Your new slogan will be “Yes, I CAN”
- Stop buying food in tin cans or plastic
You should try to find everything you can´t buy fresh, processed in a glasses. It´s actually not that hard. At the time I looked out for glasses I realized how much stuff is wrapped in plastic. You can rinse the glasses and keep them for next year. The best benefit of glasses is, you will start to produce less waste, as a thanks to the environment.
A lot of people think having a garden is so much work and starting a garden is even worse and so expensive! Ok, all of you are right, if you don´t have a proper network. Today I want to bring you some ideas how to grow your own seed network and spend less money on your garden.
- Talk about your garden or your plans to start a garden
You won´t believe how many people know other people who already have a garden. Another awesome thing, a lot of people would like to have a garden but are afraid to start one on their own. These people are perfect for you, as they can help you with your garden and then get the hang of it and start their own garden a bit later. That’s the time where you can help them out with work and seeds and give something back.
You always have the choice to by plants for your garden or start from scratch. I myself love everything about seeding, as I always get a better hold of my plants.
So today I will show you some small and cheap tips to start from scratch and without a planting starter kid.
- Planting cup
You don´t need to spent money on common planting cups. Just start your seeds in left over toilette paper rolls or egg cardboard. The great thing here is, you save a lot of time and waste. You don´t need to take out the young plants out of the cup, you just plant them with the cardboard.
I really love coconut milk, you can put it in to nearly every meal and especially all sorts of curry (have a look here). The one thing that kept annoying me was the tin cans. I just don´t find any company who sells it in glasses.
If you know one, please let me and all the other know!!!!!
As I track the amount of plastic and metal garbage that I produce in 2016 these cans are a big amount of it *rrhhhhh*. I hate it, if something scr*** up my statistic! For about 2 months now, I think of an insect hotel to build and keep looking for material in the garden and all around me. Today it hit me, why not just use the cans as the ground structure so I don´t need to build a wooden frame =).
I don´t know when it started, but a lot of people don’t take care of their stuff anymore. I know everything is cheap and you can get what you want whenever you want it and you don´t even need to go to a shop anymore.
I´m 31 years old. As I started studying and having my own flat 11 years ago, I already had enough stuff and all that I needed. Later I remember a friend saying “Now you are done with studying, so you can buy new stuff for your flat and get yourself something nice.” Eehmmm what?
