That is something typical German, we call it “Mett” or “Gehacktes”. As I went abroad and people saw me eating “raw smashed” meat they just said I´m gross.
That was the first time, that I realized “Maybe it isn´t normal to do that, even if it is in eastern Germany”. Here is the meat free version for all my friends abroad, to know how it taste like, but still don´t need to eat raw meat =).
What you need: (4 portions)
50 g rice cake (or 6 slices)
1 big onion
60 g tomato paste
1 tablespoon salt
½ tablespoon pepper
200 ml water
Herbs like caraway or garlic according to your taste
How do you do it:
Break the rice cake into small pieces. Pour the water over it and let it soak in. Cut the onion in small cubes and blend everything together.
Very important, in the beginning it will not taste good at all, be careful with the spices, you need to let it rest in the fridge throughout the night. The next day it will be haven, if not add some spices.
